MARCO

Roberto sits with Marco in the tiny office again. There’s a lot going on at the moment, but for the time being, he lets his mind wander to distant memories.

“Roberto, it’s been a long time…a very long, time that we’ve had to share our beloved city with the disgrace of the Zaragosas. I still remember it like yesterday, when we first started the family here in Chicago.”

Roberto looks up from the magazine he’s reading and nods. “Me too, Marco. Me too.”

He smiles. “It’s been a long time, my friend.”

“Yes it has, Marco. But it’s almost here.”

He nods. “Yes, yes it is. Do you remember the first time we started doing business with Junior’s father?”

“Smoke? I do… We were new to the city, and he helped us to become the second largest cocaine family in Chicago…behind those greedy Zaragosas,” Roberto says.

“Yeah, he was a good man. It’s too bad he is gone.”

“Yes, he was a dear friend to us. Very loyal and trustworthy.”

“You’re right, Roberto,” he says. “That’s why I promised him that no matter what happens, I will always treat Junior like one of my own. I’ve done what I promised.”

“Junior…he’s been molded to be a great asset to this family, as well.”

He agrees again. “Yeah, he has. I can’t wait to finally get him his own family when this is over. That idiot, Papi, is just like his brother, Albert…so greedy…so money hungry that it blinds his judgment.”

“That’s what makes him a great pawn in this big game, Marco. He’s easily influenced by the promise of money and power.”

“It’s great, isn’t it? The idiot sold out his own blood for money. If he only knew he was just a puppet in all of this,” he says with childlike glee.

“He’s worthless to us… If he would sell out his own blood, he would definitely sell us out to the highest bidder. It will be great to watch their faces right before we kill them. All three of them,” Roberto says.

“You’re right, Roberto. Ever since my son was killed by that little bitch Tanya at the strip club, I’ve had a personal vendetta against that whole family. I want to make her suffer as much as she has made me suffer. It will be a satisfying image to watch that bitch take her last breath…knowing my face is the last one she sees. And she’ll remember me forever. Once Papi does as he is told and brings us Tanya and Smurf, this city will be ours for the taking, and no one will stop us. We will finally be the biggest cocaine family in the Windy City.”

Roberto stands and raises an invisible glass in front of him. “To the long-awaited downfall of the Zaragosa family, to the new expansion of the Guzman family and to Papi…the greedy bastard. If it wasn’t for him, this never would have happened,” Roberto says.

Marco smiles at Roberto and raises his own imaginary glass. “To Papi and the Zaragosa’s: May they all burn in hell.” He revels in the moment, then shifts back to reality.
